Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, the head of PML-N party, was chosen as Speaker of the National Assembly of Pakistan.

On Friday, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, a prominent figure in the party led by former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, emerged victorious as the Speaker of the recently established National Assembly. Of 291 ballots polled, PML-N's Sadiq received 199 votes, according to Dawn.com.

The candidate of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) defeated Amir Dogar, who received just 91 votes due to disturbances from the members of the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC). The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), led by imprisoned former prime minister Imran Khan, supported Dogar.
Following the vote-counting process, retiring Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf announced that 291 votes had been cast, with one being deemed "invalid" and the remaining votes being deemed "valid," according to the BBC.

Khan and the PTI have charged that there was widespread election tampering on February 8 and have claimed that the PML-N and its allies, particularly the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), stole the mandate for their party.

The PML-N-backed candidate was sure to win given the party's standing in the Assembly, as Khan's PTI was to be kept out of power by the Nawaz Sharif-led party's alliance with the PPP and four other smaller parties.

The PTI-backed majority of independent candidates secured 93 seats in the National Assembly. The Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQM-P) had 17 seats, the PPP had 54 seats, and the PML-N had 75 seats.

In the meantime, the National Assembly Secretariat stated on Thursday that Sunday will be the day for the prime minister, or head of state, election. Shehbaz Sharif, a former prime minister, has been nominated by the PMN-L and PPP alliance.

On March 9, there will be a presidential election. After a nearly 11-year hiatus, PPP leader and former president of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari is anticipated to be re-elected.
